Well done all - the ball is already rolling for 2026, what will you achieve this year?
✈️ BELOW ZERO, ABOVE YORKSHIRE ❄️
Today, two of our cadets ended their winter break early for a spot of gliding at RAF Topcliffe.
Cadets Lee and Graham, accompanied by APO Johnston, made the early morning trip down to North Yorkshire for our first aviation experiences of the year and got to grips with the Viking T1 glider.
Make sure to check out Cadet Portal for more coming flying & gliding opportunities!

✨ PRESENTATION EVENING 2025 🏆
Last Thursday, we celebrated the achievements of our cadets throughout the 2025 calendar year with our annual Dining-In and Presentation Evening at Banks Home Riverside in Chester-le-Street.
Our cadets, staff and their families got out their best frocks for the occasion and were joined by the Right Worshipful, Councillor Ehthesham Haque, Mayor of the City of Sunderland, Officer Commanding @dnw.aircadets Wg Cdr Graham Blackie, Sector Commander Sqn Ldr Iain McNeill and Mrs Sharon Hodgson , MP for Washington and Gateshead Sourh.
We can’t wait to share the final presentations with you…watch this space for tomorrow’s post!
✈️ WEEKEND OF AVIATION 🥉
Last weekend, six of our cadets visited RAF Leeming to take to new heights…for some, quite literally!
On Friday, Cadets Atkinson, Baxter and Hattersley ventured out for a spot for Air Experience Flying with our friends from 1507 (Chester-le-Street) Squadron. As always, a huge thanks to CI Heightley and CI Shevlin for escorting our cadets and taking some fantastic photographs!
The following Sunday, Sgt Hair, Cpl Brotherton and Cdt Campbell also had an early start for a visit to 642 AGS. Having received places on a Bronze Aviation Training Package (ATP), they got to grips with gliding simulators and developed their learning from the Blue ATP received on squadron. They were presented with their new shiny bronze wings last night by Flt Lt Siberry.
Sound good? There’s plenty of opportunities to expand your learning on and off-squadron in the new year. Contact adj.2214@rafac.mod.gov.uk to find out more!
🔫 CADET ON TARGET 🎯
Last week we said a huge well done to Corporal Purvis who finally we received her bronze shot award, following her time at camp with Northumbria ACF in August!
Today we joined veterans, serving personnel, councillors and Washington residents in Washington village for a service and parade, remembering those who, for our today, they gave their tomorrow.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN 👻
We hope everyone has a great Halloween, whatever you’re doing today! Last night, our Senior NCOs hosted a Halloween games night, along with pizza, sweets and a fancy dress competition!
A huge well done to Cadets Hunter, Johnston and Hall who came first, second and third respectively! 🥇🥈🥉
This time last week, Cadets Hutchinson and Lee returned from a week-long camp at RAF Wittering, along with Sgt Terry.
Like all good blues camps, our cadets got to experience various section visits across RAF Wittering and within the Cambridgeshire area - but also got to develop new skills in air rifle shooting and paddle boarding!
There were also plenty of activities in Lincolnshire too - meeting up with 2214’s service instructor at RAF Waddington and a trip to Newark Air Museum.
Make sure to keep a look out for camp opportunities on Cadet Portal in the new year!
⛺️ RAF WITTERING AUTUMN CAMP 🍂
Two of our cadets are currently on camp at RAF Wittering in Cambridgeshire with one of our CFAVs!
We can’t wait to give you a full update after they return home, but you can see what they get up to everyday on our story…
Here’s just a few highlights to show you what you’ve missed…
👨🏻🏫 NCO DEVELOPMENT DAY 👩🏻🏫
Last Saturday, SGT Terry, SGT Warwick and CI Johnston put our NCO Team through their paces as part of our bi-annual NCO development training.
This particular weekend focused on collaborative working, communication and the importance of Flight Time, with a mix of classroom training, drill practice and a STEM session to keep everyone on their toes!
Our staff and NCOs also held an open discussion hour, putting ideas together and gathering vital input on how we can continue to develop as a squadron.
Well done team for your commitment to 2214 - we love to see it!
In recent weeks, some of our cadets were presented with their new classification badges, having successfully completed three online exams in three subjects!

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
On Sunday, ten personnel from 2214 attended the Wing Battle of Britain parade at Durham Cathedral, recognising the 85th anniversary of the military campaign.
We joined our colleagues from across Durham Northumberland Wing to acknowledge and remember the lives lost with a service within the cathedral, followed by a march past around the cathedral green, reviewed by HM Lord Lieutenant of Durham, Dame Sue Snowdon.

It’s been a busy weekend for 2214…
Firstly, on Saturday, 10 of our cadets were out in the community, spreading the light blue footprint and raising funds for the @raf.association Wings Appeal at the Washington Carnival in Albany Park.
It was also a chance to get to meet the public, and of course, enjoy the carnival - great work!
Last week Cadets Bainbridge, Inawo and Lee took the first step on the leadership ladder and earned their blue leadership award - well done all!
🍔 BANK HOLIDAY BBQ ☀️
As our cadets prepare to get back to school, on Monday, we saw out the summer with a squadron BBQ!
Our cadets and staff, along with friends and family, enjoyed a day of garden games in the sun along a buffet of barbecue food and sweet treats.
After a busy summer of camps, courses and community working, it’s good to relax!
⭐️ THANK YOU ⭐️
On Thursday we held our second open evening of the year, showing potential new recruits just exactly #WhatWeDo
Ahead of our next intake, we want to say thank you to everyone who made the evening a success - including Asda Community Champion Eve and all our friends at @asda The Galleries in Washington - thanks for your donations to our open evening buffet!
